I recently marked a staggering fitness achievement that I wanted to share with you. Over the past few years, I’ve logged 5,000 miles on my elliptical trainer. For a frame of reference, that is the distance between Miami, Florida, and Livengood, Alaska! Now, you may be asking, why have I spent so much time exercising? The answer is simple:
Of all the things I practice to extend my healthspan, perhaps none is more important to me than exercise. Every morning, including weekends, I get up around 4:15 am and read and review articles.
By 5 am, I am out the door and begin a brisk walk of almost four miles. I will then get back to the house and read a bit more. After that, I will do about 25 hard minutes on my elliptical while watching some TV. I typically get my heart rate up to about 145-149, which is the target heart rate for someone about 40 years old, which I am fine with. After this, I will swim in the pool for about 20-25 minutes. In addition, I perform 100 sit-ups at night before bed.
This is the regimen I maintain seven days a week, regardless of the weather.
Before I leave for my office in the morning, I also take a handful of supplements (see photo) to complement my fitness routine.
I will go into a detailed explanation of my supplements in Part II of this blog post.
