Proper form, swing speed and muscle. These are the cornerstones of a powerful golf swing. And while we can’t coach you on the range or analyze your str-oke in a simulator, we can recommend some supplements that will keep your body in peak form while you chase your lowest scores.
Protein
Your first priority should be to consume as much protein from your diet as you can through eggs, fish, meat or even nuts. However, if you’re golfing 18 holes in the hot sun, your muscles are likely taxed and you’d benefit from an extra boost of protein to aid recovery.
Protein can typically be bought in powder or RTD (ready-to-drink) form. Depending on the serving size, a typical serving of protein powder may include 15-25 grams of protein as well as a laundry list of branch chain amino acids (BCAAs).
Taking just one scoop of your favorite protein powder after a round of golf will deliver essential amino acids to your muscles, which may help with building strength and overcoming muscle fatigue.
Glucosamine & Chondroitin
We don’t often think of swinging a golf club as a violent act, but when it comes to your body, it is. The tension and torque needed to whip the club around your body requires a kinetic chain reaction from your bones to your cartilage, tendons, muscles and more.
In order to support your cartilage, which cushions your joints, consider supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin. Glucosamine and chondroitin are building blocks of cartilage and are naturally made by the body. Unfortunately, a condition known as osteoarthritis breaks down cartilage as you age. By supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin you may be able to support healthy cartilage to protect your joints – and your golf game!
Collagen
Collagen is a type of protein found in cartilage, skin, bones and skin. Many people take collagen supplements for appearance, due to its role in healthy skin and hair growth. One thing to keep in mind is that collagen is vital to tendons as well.
As we just discussed, tendons bear the brunt of the force of your golf swing, so keeping them in top shape is crucial!
Collagen is commonly available in bars and powders.
