How Dr. P Attained the Klotho Protein Levels of an 18-35 Year Old

At PUR-FORM, everything we do is based on science and backed by scientific research. In no way do we consider ourselves to be a medical spa. That term sends chills up and down my spine. We are a medical wellness facility deeply entrenched in science and the scientific method.

Other facilities may have a few of the same modalities we utilize, but our unique methodology and focus on the latest research, technology, longevity studies and the regenerative medicine experts and colleagues I’ve met throughout my career place us head and shoulders above the pack. 

I have always been a believer in looking at the body’s pathways. An analogy I like to use is that the body’s organs and cells are the computer hardware, and the pathways in the body are the computer software. Like your desktop or laptop computer, when we have a glitch, we will reboot our software and try to do the same in our body’s pathways. I typically will try various techniques to diagnose, treat and repair issues that arise, even when it pertains to my own health.

On that note, I’d like to share 3 things I focus on to maintain my youth using PUR-FORM’s methods, and then I’d like to share some hard data regarding Klotho proteins to prove this method works.

1: Exercise & Nutrition

I am very diligent about exercise, as you can see from this blog post here. I spend about 2 hours a day exercising, seven days a week. I also practice intermittent fasting for 18 hours a day, five days a week. I follow a sensible diet, but not anything ridiculous. I try to eat smart most of the time, but I will indulge in ice cream and pizza from time to time. 

I try to get most of my nutrients from my diet, but I take a host of supplements that have one thing in common: they are designed to stimulate various pathways in the body. If these pathways are stimulated properly, they can slow down and possibly reverse aging because they involve mitochondrial health and immune-boosting pathways. 

Remember, you are only as healthy as your immune system. As we age, we develop immunosenescence, where a dysregulated immune system contributes to various conditions, from increased susceptibility to infections to cancer to many neurodegenerative conditions.

2: Focus on Mitochondria

I cater to my mitochondria because our overall health is tied to our mitochondrial health. I give my mitochondria ample supplies of several supplements, including NAD precursors, which will simultaneously stimulate the sirtuin proteins. The sirtuins have multiple effects on our health, well-being, and longevity, as you can read from my blog post here. They affect so many different pathways in the body. I also use compounds that help recycle the mitochondria, like beet products to stimulate my nitric oxide production. As many of you might know, I am a big believer in SuperBeets. SuperBeets and Neo-40 are part of my daily regimen. They help control blood pressure and aid in the health of my mitochondria.

3: Regenerative Medicine Techniques

To maximize my health, I also utilize several modalities in the PUR-FORM office. Some of my favorites include EBO2, Intermittent Hypoxia Therapy, Hydrogen Gas therapy, a few others and various intravenous medications. I am a big believer in contrast therapy to stimulate my heat and cold shock proteins. These proteins keep the receptors on my different pathways functioning at their peak. Hyperbaric would also come into play here. Last but not least, I will make sure I receive one or two VSEL treatments a year.

As I mentioned earlier, we are always on the lookout for new markers, tests or indicators in the body that will help guide us in our quest to increase health span. With that in mind, I am about to embark on a study to increase Klotho protein in my body. Let me explain what that is and why.

Klotho Proteins

I recently did a blood test to check the levels of a protein called Klotho found in my blood to get a baseline measurement. Klotho is a subject that has held my interest for quite some time because researchers are increasingly interested in the potential for targeting Klotho protein to slow aging and age-related diseases. 

Klotho is a transmembrane protein involved in various processes that impact lifespan and healthspan. Understanding the mechanisms of Klotho could ultimately lead to novel anti-aging therapies. Klotho gets its name from Clotho, one of the Fates from Greek mythology. This symbolic name reflects the protein’s influence over vital cellular processes and aging. 

Klotho is predominantly produced in the kidneys, brain, and reproductive organs and serves essential bodily functions. There are some studies suggesting that Klotho can increase one’s I.Q.

One of the critical ways Klotho affects aging is through regulating metabolism and oxidative stress. Oxidative stress leads to inflammation, which leads to aging. Hence, we have now developed the term “inflammaging” where inflammation and aging intertwine and feed off each other.

Klotho also activates FOXO forkhead transcription factors, enhancing resistance to oxidative stress. Oxidative damage accumulates over one’s lifespan, contributing significantly to aging. By boosting antioxidative defenses, Klotho helps mitigate this age-related damage. Klotho also influences lifespan by inhibiting insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) pathways. This inhibition is thought to be one reason calorie restriction extends lifespan. By mimicking the effects of calorie restriction, Klotho expression thus promotes a longer lifespan. In addition, Klotho regulates mineral homeostasis of calcium and phosphate, vitamin D metabolism, stem cell function, and cellular senescence. Through these diverse effects, appropriate Klotho expression and activity defend against chronic disease and support healthy aging. Klotho has an enormous potential to extend human healthspan and treat conditions associated with premature aging. 

With further research, targeting Klotho may one day unlock the fountain of youth that has been sought since ancient times. 

With all this in mind, I wondered if my chosen PUR-FORM modalities and the conscious healthy lifestyle that I’ve lived for decades would positively affect my Klotho levels, so I had my blood drawn, and it was sent to a unique laboratory out west, and it was analyzed. 

The results came back a few days ago, and they are listed below. In addition to determining the level of Klotho protein in my body, the report broke down levels of Klotho protein by age group and sex.

As can be seen, my Klotho level was 1483. This is astonishing. As you can see from the chart, in men aged 18-34.9 years, the mean score was 851, and the standard deviation was 566.

This means that regarding my Klotho level, my score was higher than over 90% of the 18-35 year old men in the group!

This is certainly something I am happy about and shows me that many of the choices I’ve made are paying off. 

But we also have to be realistic. Does my Klotho score mean that I am biologically between 18 and 35 years old? Or that when using biological age I am a member of Gen Z or a Millennial? Ha! No.

I am not a member of either group, I am a Baby Boomer, which shows some of the foolishness of biological ages. 

To be clear, biological age is important, but it is not the end of all things. Aging is a mosaic. It is composed of many different factors. Those people who state that their biological age is such and such as definitive proof of their “youth” do not know what they are talking about. 

However, the more the aging mosaic puzzle is solved, the better the patient’s chances of longevity and health span. My Klotho level hopefully implies significant longevity and healthspan. My lifestyle choices and the many modalities I use in the PUR-FORM office have contributed to this Klotho level. Genetics may also come into play here, but perhaps even more important is the field of epigenetics (modifications of gene expression without changing the gene). We all have some control over epigenetics, and it depends somewhat on your chosen lifestyle. I am more than happy to share my protocols with our members.
